David Moyes has suggested that Sunderland need to find a way to keep a core of players at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are likely to suffer a mass exodus upon relegation, with most of their current first-team squad set to leave.
However, Moyes would like to keep a strong group of players around - to give him something to build on for next term.
MOYES: "I think we have a core here & we need to keep those players. We need to find a way of adding to it & add players who have quality."— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) May 19, 2017
Among the players Sunderland will be hoping to keep next year are the likes of Didier Ndong, Lee Cattermole and Victor Anichebe.
Don Hutchison disagreed with Moyes’ analysis though, and suggested that a full scale clear out is exactly what was needed.
Sunderland have endured a miserable campaign this time around, and are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Black Cats’ final league game sees them take on champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
