Danny Mills has told The Daily Star that Pontus Jansson will remain at Leeds United next season.

Jansson played on loan at Leeds from Italian club Torino during the 2016-17 season and will sign a permanent contract in the summer.

According to The Daily Star, Premier League side Southampton are considering making a move for the 26-year-old central defender in the summer transfer window.

Former Leeds defender Mills, though, does not think that Jansson will leave the West Yorkshire outfit.

"I think he [Jansson] will stay at Leeds," Mills told The Daily Star. "He's had a good season but I don't think anyone is going to come in and pay a fortune for him.

"He's unproven at that level [the Premier League]. With just one season in the Championship people will be wary.”

Jansson may have played just one season in the Championship, but the defender does have experience of playing in Italy and at the international level with Sweden.

True, there will be an element of risk for any Premier League club looking to sign the centre-back, but isn’t that with every new signing?

Leeds, though, should be confident that they will not lose the defender in the summer. With the Whites aiming to challenge for the Championship playoffs again next season, they should not worry about losing one of the best players.
