Newcastle have been long-standing admirers of Ince, and actually tracked the midfielder back in January.
In the new year, Ince was quizzed on whether he would move to Newcastle by the Derby Telegraph.
And, during the previous transfer window, Ince denied that he was desperate for a move to St. James' Park.
However, the attacking midfielder did, crucially, suggest that he wanted to play Premier League football - meaning that a move to Tyneside may be far more appealing now.
"The transfer window is always an exciting time but, for me, I'm happy at this club and I'm enjoying my football," Ince said, six months ago.
"I enjoy coming into training every day but, of course, I want to be successful, like any other player.
"For me, it's just about trying to achieve things with this club.
"I want to be playing in the Premier League - and so does everyone else in the dressing room."
Newcastle can now offer Ince the chance to play in the top flight, following their promotion from the Championship this season.
Ince is one of a number of Championship stars to have been linked with Newcastle already this summer.
The Magpies are believed to have a considerable amount of funds to spend on improving their squad.
Ince has scored 14 goals for Derby this season, and claimed eight assists.
