Cagliari defender Bruno Alves has agreed to join Rangers in the summer transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that the 35-year-old defender is set to become Pedro Caixinha’s first signing as Rangers manager.

According to the report, the Portugal international centre-back has given Caixinha personal assurance that he will move to the Scottish giants in the summer.

Gers chiefs are now locked in talks with Alves’ current club Cagliari, who will reluctantly allow the Euro 2016 winner to leave,” adds the report in The Scottish Sun.

“Alves has one year left on his current contract, but a deal is close to being struck and he could arrive in Scotland next week.”

Alves is a very experienced and highly rated defender who could proved to be a sensational signing for Rangers.

The former Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg star won the 2016 European Championship with Portugal in France.

While Alves may be past his prime, he would still be able to do a good job for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers, who won automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season, look set to finish third in the Scottish Premiership this campaign.

The Gers will be aiming to close the gap between themselves and Old Firm rivals Celtic next season.
