Toni Martinez is a huge fans favourite at West Ham United already - no wonder Wolverhampton Wanderers want him on loan next season.

After the disaster of last summer’s kid in a candy shop recruitment, Wolves fans will be sick to the stomach if the club repeat their mistakes this time around.

From ill-suited foreign imports to strikers with an apparent allergy to those big rectangle things at either end of the football pitch, the fact that Wolves finished a disappointing 15th owed much to their inability to strengthen an average squad.

Though the Express and Star reports that the Championship club have identified one of the hottest young talents in the Premier League as the man to take them forward next season.

West Ham supporters have clamoured for Spanish striker Toni Martinez to be given a chance in the first-team after scoring for fun at academy level.

Signed from Valencia for a hefty £2.4 million last summer (Daily Mail), the 19-year-old netted 15 goals in 14 games to inspire West Ham’s reserves to win promotion to the Premier League 2 top flight at Newcastle United’s expense.

Clearly, Martinez has the raw potential to succeed where Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Nouha Dicko and the forgotten Paul Gladon failed at Wolves. A tally of one goal in 15 League One games on loan at Oxford United, plus his inability to adapt to the physical lower league style, may set a few alarm bells ringing.

However, Martinez is a striker with frightening potential, as Newcastle found out when he netted a thumping heading in Oxford’s famous 3-0 FA Cup triumph.

And, if the comments of West Ham fans are anything to go on, Wolves may soon welcome one hell of a talent to Molineux.
