Conceding just 36 goals in 46 games, Bolton Wanderers boast by far the best defensive record in League One. While their attack was far from prolific, Phil Parkinson’s side owe much to their solid backline as they prepare for a return to the Championship after just one season away.

And, according to Kent Live, The Trotters could be hoping to strengthen further in the transfer market with Charlton Athletic’s Jason Pearce taking pride and place on their summer shopping list.

The 29-year-old only joined The Addicks last year from Wigan Athletic but impressed at The Valley despite missing four months with a groin injury between December and April.

And it appears that his stay with the capital club may be a short one with Bolton plotting a move in the coming weeks – although Kent Live adds that they will have to fight off competition from Birmingham City and former club Wigan.

Pearce may not be the kind of signing that has fans rushing to the ticket office but the imposing centre-back has plenty of Championship experience under his belt.

He spent a single season at Portsmouth before enjoying three years at Leeds United, even captaining the Yorkshire giants on occasion.

Furthermore, with Bolton defensive duo David Wheater and Dorian Dervite currently out of contract, you wonder whether the addition of Pearce may be a back-up plan if the club cannot tie down two of their most important players.
