John Bostock - Tottenham Hotspur
John Bostock was considered the hottest prospect in the country when he made his debut for Crystal Palace aged 15 – with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all linked with the player.
But it was Tottenham Hotspur who managed to tie him down in what was a controversial transfer back in 2008.
It was a move that eventually proved unsuccessful as Bostock never made a telling impact at White Hart Lane and his tale is often used as a cautionary one.
However, since leaving Spurs the 24-year-old has got his career back on track. A spell at Royal Antwerp in Belgium got him away from the media glare and he went on to join another Belgian side, OH Leuven, where he won the Belgian second division player of the season last term.
That earned him a move to Ligue 2 side RC Lens in France and this week he again took away a prestigious award. He was named the French second tier’s Player of the Year after a brilliant campaign with his new club.
It is great to see the former Tottenham man is finally showing off the talent that once saw him so highly sought after across the continent.
Spurs will hope he can continue to be a hit in France in the years to come.
