Alex Mowatt of Barnsley looks dejected after being sent off
Leeds United are bracing themselves for the exit of Charlie Taylor this summer. The talented left-back is out of contract and refused to play in the club’s final game of the season against Wigan Athletic. A move to West Brom is becoming increasingly unlikely, but he is still expected to depart Elland Road.
Leeds fans are of course used to seeing their top young talents go.
This is perhaps most poignantly evident by the photo of the club’s kit launch from the start of the 2015-16 season…
Taylor, who is set to leave, was joined by Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt and Sam Byram for the launch. The marketing was clear, this was the future of Leeds United.
But Cook’s brilliance caught the eye and Bournemouth paid big to bring him in. Mowatt’s form dipped and in January was sold at a cut-price figure to Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Byram left for West Ham with just six months left on his deal at Elland Road.

Soon enough the talented Leeds stars in question will be all gone, just two years after the picture was taken.
Hopefully the next generation does not go in a similar fashion.
