Lincoln City are lining up a move for Macclesfield Town midfielder Kingsley James on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

James is out of contract at Macclesfield next month after initially signing a one-year deal upon his arrival from Halifax Town last summer.

The 25-year-old established himself as a key member of the Macclesfield side this season, making 38 appearances and scoring five goals in all competitions.

Former Sheffield United and Port Vale man James helped Macclesfield finish in ninth spot in the National League as they just missed out on the play-offs and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on him.

Macclesfield were keen to keep hold of James, but Lincoln are keen to bring the midfielder to Sincil Bank after being impressed by the player when he came up against them in the National League this term.

Lincoln boss Danny Cowley is busy scouring the transfer market as he looks to bolster his squad as they prepare for life back in the Football League next season.

The National League champions are keen to do some business early and have lined up a deal for James when his contract at Macclesfield expires next month.
