West Ham United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in their most recent outing.

Harry Redknapp has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 8th May, that West Ham United sent the message that they wanted Slaven Bilic to stay, through their performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Bilic’s future has been heavily speculated about in recent weeks, with West Ham’s board said to be considering other options.

However, the Hammers’ victory over Tottenham may have been enough to keep the Croatian boss in a job for next season.

And Redknapp said: “I must admit that I thought Spurs would be too strong, but West Ham were great on the night. They responded. There had been talk about Slaven, but they came out and showed their feelings about the manager. And the atmosphere was great.

“Obviously it was disappointing for Tottenham, they have chased Chelsea all the way, and they’ll be big next year. But the big disadvantage is that they will be playing at Wembley.”

West Ham United's Manuel Lanzini scores their first goal

West Ham’s form in front of their own fans at the London Stadium this season has been highly disappointing.

But their performance against Spurs, showed that they were still capable of troubling the Premier League’s elite.

West Ham scored their goal through Manuel Lanzini, and largely limited Spurs to half-chances.

The victory has lifted West Ham up to 12th in the Premier League table, while effectively ending Tottenham’s hopes of catching league leaders Chelsea.
