Irrespective of where Arsenal finish this season, the upcoming transfer window will be a massive one for the Gunners.

Not only do they need to bolster the squad with quality additions, their biggest challenge will be to keep hold of their star players and get them to sign fresh new deals.

Arsene Wenger hopes that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will sign a new contract extension in the summer.

The 23-year-old has a contract at Arsenal till June 2018, and he is yet to sign a new deal. Wenger expects the England forward to commit to his future to the north London club.

“Personally, as I have told you many times, he has to commit his future to the club and I hope he will do that in the summer,” Wenger said, as quoted by Arsenal.com

Chamberlain has been at the club for six seasons now, but there is a feeling that he has never really fulfilled his potential.

He is a player of immense talent, but has only delivered in flashes. The consistency in his game is missing at times, which has led to frustration among the fans.

This season he has made 27 appearances for the Gunners in the Premier League, but has started in only 14 of those games.

However, Chamberlain has produced some eye-catching performances in recent matches and has been named April's Vitality Player of the Month.

He has been asked to move to a new position as right wing-back, and Wenger has been impressed with the way he has adapted to his new role.
