The 43-year-old told the Derby Telegraph earlier this week that he will take a ‘hands on’ approach to the transfer market. Therefore, this suggests that Rowett is playing a major role in the club’s reported pursuit of Alex Soares.
According to O Jogo, the 26-year-old midfielder has come to Derby’s attention after a series of impressive performances in the Portuguese top flight with CS Maritimo – despite the fact that eight of his 20 league appearances have come from the substitute’s bench and he has not scored a single goal all season.
Renowned for his dynamic, ambitious midfield play, characterised by mazy dribbles and long shots, Soares (below, right) would certainly seem a wild card option for Derby.
And, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the fans can rest easy knowing he will not be yet another overpriced, over-rated flop sucking funds out of Pride Park.
O Jogo add that Serie A side Genoa are interested in partnering Soares with fellow Iberian Miguel Veloso in midfield, so Derby are not alone in their pursuit.
However, with Rowett aiming to put his own stamp on the side, reports that The Rams are planning their transfer business early can only be seen as a positive step.
