Southampton's Virgil van Dijk has been out of action since sustaining an ankle injury in January.

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has given fans a further update on his rehab from injury, sharing a video of himself kicking a football again.

In the clip, filmed at the club’s training facilities, he’s seen quickly tapping the ball from one foot to the other so, while it is technically ball work, it’s a long way off the type of kicking you would see him execute in a match.

Van Dijk hasn’t played since picking up an ankle injury in January and, given Southampton’s season will be finished in less than a month, it looks unlikely that he will feature again this campaign.

And that means he may have played his last game for the Saints.

Happy Monday everyone. Back working with the ball ⚽️ #progress
