This week Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with an exciting £30 million swoop for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa. The Mirror report that Spurs are keen on the player, who has struggled to play regular football under Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti.

However, Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of the Brazilian talent. Chelsea are also said to be keeping tabs on the player.

So could this be yet another Willian situation for Spurs?

Back in 2013 Spurs looked to have signed the Brazilian winger, formerly a team-mate of Douglas Costa’s at Shakhtar Donetsk, from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

It was a move that infuriated Spurs, who thought they had managed to snap up the player under the management of Andre Villas-Boas.

This could end up being a similar situation.

If both teams are keen on the player, there is no doubt a move could be in the offing. But Chelsea will always be able to offer more wages than Spurs, and leave them chasing shadows in the transfer market.

It would not be a surprise if Chelsea managed to pull a Willian on Spurs all over again.
