Steve Bruce has told the Birmingham Mail that he will have a close eye on three of Aston Villa’s players in training.

Villa have one more training session to go, before they face Birmingham City on Sunday.

And Bruce admits that he is still assessing the fitness of Neil Taylor and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

“We’ve got 18, 19, we’ve got a big training session coming up with two or three people to see if they’re fit or not, Taylor being one, Gabby being one.

“I’ll make my mind up after the training session with what team we’ll be going with.”

Bruce already confirmed that Agbonlahor would be involved against Birmingham, so the experienced boss must have faith that the striker will pass his fitness test.

Whether Agbonalhor will start for the claret and blues remains to be seen though.

And Bruce has plenty of other selection decisions to make, ahead of Villa’s match against their Midlands rivals.

Jack Grealish, who scored in Villa’s last match against Fulham, could keep his place in the team - while Gary Gardner will also be hoping to start.

And when asked if Grealish would feature for Villa at the weekend, Bruce said: “I’m sure, and then I’m sure Gary Gardner is too.

“The local ones we’ve got of course want to be involved because it’s such a big occasion.”
