Former Rangers and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 21, 2017) that Tottenham Hotspur will be favourites against London rivals Chelsea this weekend.
Tottenham will take on Premier League rivals Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium in London in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
Former Chelsea star Wilkins has admitted that Spurs will head into the game as favourites.
“I suppose on present form, you will have to say that Tottenham might well be going into it as favourites because they are playing with a lot of vibrancy there,” said Wilkins The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 21, 2017). “They are young, they are powerful, they are quick.”
Chelsea’s recent form has been patchy, as Antonio Conte’s side have lost as many as two Premier League matches this month.
The Stamford Bridge outfit’s current lead at the top of the league table is only four points, with Tottenham second.
Spurs will indeed head into the encounter against the Blues as favourites. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will also know that winning against Chelsea would give them a psychological edge in the title race.
However, Chelsea have a better team, on paper at least, and Conte’s side could well win the game comfortably and progress to the final of the FA Cup.
This tie should be an entertaining and exciting affair, and one should not be surprised if the outcome is eventually decided on penalties.
