Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea players dominated this year's Team of the Year.

Ex-Arsenal star Martin Keown shared his view that Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso deserved to make the Premier League Team of the Year, ahead of Spurs man Danny Rose, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old has been one of the surprise packages this season, performing to incredibly high standards on a regular basis for Antonio Conte's side.

Rose has been equally as impressive, although he has been out of action since January, after suffering a serious knee injury against Sunderland.

And Keown explained why he believes the Blues star should have been selected for the team of the year ahead of the Tottenham man, when writing his regular column for the Daily Mail:

"Marcos Alonso can count himself unlucky to have missed out on the left. We saw just how much Chelsea missed him against Manchester United. He has hardly missed a game this season and for team of the year you have to consider players who have been regularly available for selection. Alonso would make my team ahead of Danny Rose but would be the only Chelsea player in the back five.”

The 26-year-old England international is still widely considered to be the best left-back in the league, but Alonso's performances for Chelsea have really stood out this season, there is no doubting that.

And maybe the Spaniard would have been more deserving of a place in the Team of the Year, considering that he has played eight more games than Rose.
