Could Ronaldo Vieira feature for Leeds United against Burton Albion in the Championship this weekend?

Leeds United manager Garry Monk

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that Ronaldo Vieira could feature this weekend.

The Whites will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Burton Albion away from home at the Pirelli Stadium in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire outfit will be looking to return to winning ways following a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road on Monday evening.

Leeds head coach Monk has suggested that the match against Burton could see the return of 18-year-old defensive midfielder Vieira.

“He had tonsillitis over the two games so obviously it’s very contagious as well and he was from ill it,” Monk told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Vieira.

“You obviously can’t have him around the other players because it’s very contagious.

It was unfortunate for Ronny, he was due to be involved in those two games and he wasn’t but that’s part of football and that’s what you have to deal with.

“He’s back in now, he’s been training well week like the others and Tyler is back out so the squad, all of them, they are raring to go and they have all been such a big part of it on a daily basis and in the games.

“They are very much together and determined to go into these three games and do their best.”

Vieira did not feature in Leeds’s last two Championship matches against Newcastle United and Wolves; the Whites failed to win either.

Is it just a coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, but the return to full fitness of the 18-year-old defensive midfielder is certainly going to enhance Leeds’s chances of winning against Burton.

The talented and promising teenager has been an important player for the Elland Road outfit so far this season, scoring one goal and creating seven chances in 31 Championship appearances.
