French newspaper L'Equipe reported this week that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Lyon attacker Corentin Tolisso.

The midfielder demonstrated last night why he is so highly rated, starring in Lyon's Europa League semi final victory over Besiktas.

The French side had to dig deep, winning in a penalty shootout after a 2-1 loss after extra-time.

Tolisso scored his spot kick, and pushed hard during the game to try and win it for his side before the tie went to the lottery of penalties.

He created five goalscoring chances and had four shots at goal, and was willing to get on the ball at every opportunity.

He amassed 109 touches in total, a high number for a member of an away team inflated due to extra time, but for context this was more than any Lyon player managed, or any Besiktas player.

Tolisso won six aerial duels and dug in defensively, making four tackles.

The attacking midfielder is valued highly by Lyon and told France Football last year that Arsenal are a club which makes him dream, with the Premier League a division he is attracted by.

The Arsenal comments could put Spurs off, but his performance last night will not have done.

If Tottenham are looking for an alternative to Christian Eriksen, Tolisso would fill that requirement perfectly.
