Could Newcastle United move for the out-of-favour Arsenal man?

Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson is a target for Newcastle United, the Mirror reports (20 April, page 57).

The right-back has made just five senior appearances this season, although none since November despite staying injury-free.

A proposed move to Crystal Palace fell through in January, and Jenkinson is likely to sever his Emirates Stadium ties this summer.

Despite their recent wobble, Newcastle appear destined to be a Premier League side again next season, and right-back could be one area in which the Magpies are looking to strengthen.

Rafa Benitez's side added DeAndre Yedlin and Jesus Gamez during last summer's transfer window, although Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita has been a regular there in recent months.

Anita is out of contract at the end of this season, however, while Gamez could also depart having made just seven appearances all season.

Jenkinson is not the first high-profile player to be linked with a move to Newcastle this month, with Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson and Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross among the others.

Is Jenkinson a good signing for Newcastle United?
