Pontus Jansson of Leeds United
Leeds United and Southampton fans have been reacting on Twitter to reports coming out of The Sun recently that suggested that the Saints were plotting a summer move for Whites defender Pontus Jansson.
Jansson has enjoyed a sensational season at Elland Road, and a deal is in a place for Leeds to sign him for £3.5 million when his loan deal expires in the summer (via The Sun).
However, The Sun is reporting that he may not be a permanent Leeds player for long with Southampton ready to try and tempt him to St Mary's by offering the Championship side three times what they paid for the Sweden international.
Understandably, the news has triggered contrasting reactions amongst fans of the two clubs. Leeds supporters have suggested that it would be a major blow to lose the 26-year-old who has made himself a hero at the club, especially as his regular centre-back partner Kyle Bartley is only on loan with the Whites currently.
Meanwhile, Southampton fans generally seem delighted with the news despite the fact that The Sun is suggesting that Jansson is likely to be a replacement for current talisman Virgil van Dijk if he moves on, and have suggested that the former Torino star has the potential to become as beloved on the south coast as he currently is amongst Leeds fans.
Here is the best of the reaction...
Pontus Jansson absolutely loves every club he's played for. He'd become a cult hero for us, no doubt about it. #saintsfc— Jack (@VivaVirgil) 20 April 2017
I'll say this now, IF jansson and Bartley decide they don't want to stay then fine, I ain't gonna be upset with players who don't want to be— jake stevens (@lufc_16) 19 April 2017
Imagine leeds not getting promoted, bartley and jansson leave and Garry Monk and His staff dont have thier contract renewed. #lufc— Predict LUFC (@PredictLUFC) 19 April 2017
Bit of a nightmare if we don't go up, Jansson leaves and Bartley doesn't sign #lufc— markcally (@markcally8) 19 April 2017
