Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has been speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s Championship clash against Leeds United this weekend, with his comments published on the club’s official website.

Among the topics up for discussion was the unavailability of loanee Luke Murphy, who is ineligible to play against his parent club.

The midfielder left Leeds for a temporary stint at Burton back in January and he quickly set about making up for lost time.

So far the 27-year-old has featured 18 times for Burton, becoming an integral part of their side and aiding in their fight against relegation.

“It’s a big blow missing Luke against his parent club, he’s been one of our most consistent players,” Clough said.

“His fitness has improved but it will do him good to get a breather, too.”

Murphy quickly fell out of favour at Leeds, with Monk opting to exclude the former fan favourite from first-team duties.

By the time he left Leeds he was making do with under-23 games and he managed just one 58-minute appearance for the Whites all season.

He will no doubt be frustrated not to feature against his employers this weekend but, assuming he makes a permanent move in the summer, they could meet again sooner rather than later.
