Newcastle United suffered an extremely disappointing defeat to Ipswich Town in their most recent game.
Newcastle United's Daryl Murphy reacts after Ipswich Town's score their third goal
Daryl Murphy has admitted that the mood in the Newcastle dressing room following their defeat to Ipswich Town on Monday was solemn, the Shields Gazette reports.
The Magpies missed the chance to put themselves close to the brink of securing automatic-promotion as they were beaten 3-1 at Portman Road to allow third place Reading to close the gap to six points, while Huddersfield could move to within four points should they manage to win their game in hand.
And Murphy - who scored Newcastle's goal but did not celebrate against the club he played for for around five years - has suggested that the team struggled to shake off the disappointment after the game had finished.
“It was just very down. Everyone was very disappointed. We know we’re much better than that. There are some very good players in that dressing room," he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.

Despite the loss, Rafa Benitez's men will know that they are still in the driving seat to join Brighton in securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.
And with all of their remaining opponents hovering around mid-table, Newcastle will certainly back themselves to get back on track in the near future and secure the points they need to make sure that one of their final three games ends with the dressing room celebrating promotion back to the top flight rather than commiserating after a defeat.
