Porto are reportedly willing to accept offers of £12m for Vincent Aboubakar – but could Norwich City pull off a huge coup by signing him ahead of Everton?

Aboubakar

Stuart Webber may be used to thriving on a shoestring budget but the newly appointed Norwich City sporting director should have more money to play with at Carrow Road.

The 33-year-old masterminded Huddersfield Town’s rise from mid-table to the play-off places in less than two years via an astute approach to the transfer market revolving around free agents and inspired loan signings.

Therefore, with Norwich outspending The Terriers by £20 million this season and finding themselves seven places and 14 points behind, you can see why The Canaries were so keen to get him on board.

Webber himself admitted to the Eastern Daily Press that Norwich have endured ‘three or four bad transfer windows’ with the likes of Sergi Canos, Steven Naismith, Ivo Pinto, Matt Jarvis and, as yet, Yanic Wildschut struggling to justify hefty price tags.

Therefore, if The Canaries are to push for promotion next season, they must spend their money more wisely. Though that does not mean they should restrict themselves to snapping up promising youngsters on short-term fees or free-agents desperate for a new club.

Instead, however, perhaps Webber should consider breaking the club’s transfer record for a proven goalscorer. Fotomac reported recently that Norwich were considering a stunning swoop for Besiktas loanee Vincent Aboubakar and, according to Miliyet, parent club Porto would be willing to accept offers of £12 million.

Aboubakar

Norwich would certainly need to pull out all the stops to convince the Cameroonian to move to Elland Road. After all, Miliyet claims that Everton are also interested. The Toffees will be able to offer Europa League football plus the prospect of replacing the wantaway Romelu Lukaku.

Aboubakar, an immensely powerful centre-forward renowned for his rocket shots, is about as close to the Belgian as you can get.

But just imagine the impact of a coup this impressive at Norwich. Like Helder Costa at Wolves, Aboubakar is far too good for the English second tier so, if the opportunity arises, the Anglian outfit should seize it.

Webber would certainly be making his presence felt.
