14 of the best 24-and-unders who are out of contract at British clubs this summer

Dominic Solanke

Players from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Sunderland, Newcastle United, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Nottingham Forest feature.

Young players tend to cost a premium these days, though there could be bargains to be had this summer as several British-based 24-and-unders approach the end of their deals.

From the Premier League to League Two via Scotland, we've rounded up 14 of the best right here:

Brad Potts

Club: Blackpool

Position: Midfielder

Age: 22

Lowdown: Having scored or made 23 goals for the Seasiders this season, Potts is clearly ready to step up a division - or two. Blackpool, though, are said to have an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

Sam Nicholson

Club: Hearts

Position: Winger

Age: 22

Lowdown: Nicholson has scored or made seven goals in 16 games for Hearts this season, and would have had more had he not missed two months through injury. With the Jambos falling out of the top-two race since previous boss Robbie Neilson left, it could be time for Nicholson to leave his boyhood club.

Sammy Ameobi

Club: Newcastle United

Position: Winger

Age: 24

Lowdown: Ameobi impressed on loan to Bolton Wanderers earlier in the campaign and is likely to have stayed but for Newcastle's failure to re-sign Andros Townsend in January. He is not expected to feature in his parent club's plans should they go up.

Joe Wildsmith

Club: Sheffield Wednesday

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 21

Lowdown: Wildsmith has impressed when called upon over the past two campaigns, earning England Under-21 recognition. However, with Keiren Westwood tough to budge, the boyhood Owls fan will likely consider his future this summer.

Cyrus Christie

Club: Derby County

Position: Right-back

Age: 24

Lowdown: Christie has been a regular when fit, although that hasn't stopped reports linking Derby with other players in his position - notably one on this list. The Irishman would surely look to leave should another come in.

Josh Scowen

Club: Barnsley

Age: 24

Lowdown: January's Oakwell exodus has only increased Barnsley fans' affections towards Scowen, with his uncompromising approach proving endearing. The Tykes want to keep him, but he's in no rush to commit.

Yaya Sanogo

Club: Arsenal

Age: 24

Lowdown: Sanogo will go down as one of Arsene Wenger's worst Arsenal recruits, but has shown in all too sporadic flashes that the talent is there. Going off radar for a bit at a lower league club could bring out the best in the Frenchman.

Daniel Pinillos

Club: Nottingham Forest

Age: 24

Lowdown: But for injury, Pinillos would have probably had a new contract at Forest already. Having impressed since his return to action earlier this year, the Reds may struggle to keep him now.

Callum Paterson

Club: Hearts

Age: 22

Lowdown: Paterson appeared destined for English football until injury struck in December, and it'll be at least five months until he returns. The Scotland international is very unlikely to be a Hearts player by then.

Linked with: West Ham United, Watford, Derby County, Birmingham City, Cardiff City

George Honeyman

Club: Sunderland

Age: 22

Lowdown: Honeyman was denied a move to Wigan Athletic in January but hasn't had much of a look-in since then. That could change if Sunderland are a Championship outfit next term, but will he stay loyal to the Mackems?

Tosin Adarabioyo

Club: Manchester City

Position: Centre-back

Age: 19

Lowdown: Manchester City are said to want to keep the local talent, but the prospect of getting more regular action elsewhere could see Adarabioyo depart. The Citizens would be heavily compensated if so.

Charlie Taylor

Club: Leeds United

Position: Left-back

Age: 23

Lowdown: Taylor appeared to have made up his mind to leave Leeds as early as last summer, and is seemingly unmoved by the club's unexpected success this season. Given the sheer amount of interest, it's likely he'll be off regardless of whether or not the Whites are promoted.

Linked with: Liverpool, Everton, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United

Chris Willock

Club: Arsenal

Position: Winger/Striker

Age: 18

Lowdown: Excelling for England at youth level, Willock has played just twice for Arsenal so far and is said to want regular first team football next season. His Emirates chances could improve if Alexis Sanchez leaves, but it might be too late by then.

Linked with: Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth, Celtic

Dominic Solanke

Club: Chelsea

Position: Striker

Age: 19

Lowdown: Solanke is far down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and needs to move to avoid stagnation. By the seems of things, the 2014 England Youth Player of the Year will have his pick of the clubs.

Linked with: Liverpool, Everton, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Celtic, Rangers
