John Terry, a Chelsea mainstay for more than a decade, is in the twilight of his career
John Terry has lent his support to Virgil van Dijk, the man many are tipping to be brought to Stamford Bridge as his replacement.
Van Dijk, who is recovering from an ankle injury, posted a video of his rehab work on Instagram and within mere minutes the Chelsea captain had left a comment.
He told the Dutchman to “keep working mate” in a message preceded by emoji representing football and strength.
Given that, according to The Telegraph, Chelsea are in pole position to sign van Dijk this summer, Terry’s comment has raised eyebrows.
At 25, the Southampton man should be about to enter his prime and would be an short- and long-term option for the Blues, while his athleticism and comfort on the ball mean he would be able to play across Antonio Conte’s back three.
Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger told talkSPORT the club has no plans to sell him, but nobody is fooled.

Terry meanwhile is out of contract at the end of the season and, giving how fleetingly he’s been used of late, it seems unlikely he’ll be offered a new deal.
Terry’s last Premier League appearance came in November, although he has played thrice in the FA Cup since, whereas van Dijk played all but one league match before suffering the injury in a clash with Jamie Vardy January.
