Sadio Mane put Liverpool in the lead after just eight minutes, but Matthew Pennington equalised for Everton on 28 minutes.
Philippe Coutinho restored the home team’s lead just past the half-hour mark, and Divock Origi wrapped up the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the second half.
Klopp was as animated as ever on the touchline throughout the game, and so were a number of the Liverpool staff.
After the match, Everton manager Koeman criticised the Liverpool camp, and was quoted as saying by The Metro: “I don’t like coaches from the bench the whole time shouting to referees and linesmen, making a big show about tackles. They were crazy. They didn’t need the physio on the pitch. It’s a man’s sport.”
Everton are now seventh in the Premier League table at the moment, while Liverpool are currently third in the standings.
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to Everton manager Koeman’s comments after the Merseyside derby at the weekend.
Below are some of the best comments:
@empireofthekop Koeman tried a Mourinho to get the media talking about something other than the Football. Klopp was too savvy. Beaten on and off the pitch.— Greenstien (@Fan_of_LFC) 2 April 2017
Some sour grapes here from Koeman. Barclay should have received 2 red cards in this game #lfc— DrHaider (@DrfaheemHaider) 2 April 2017
Koeman's comments about being proud of Everton's display against @LFC yesterday are very Hodgsonesque. Glad it's not us anymore— Angelos (@angelos_ap) 2 April 2017
So Ronald Koeman concedes that Ross Barkley deserved two yellow cards... so agreed with the LFC bench he should have been sent off...— Gareth (@Gaz11) 2 April 2017
