Mauro Icardi at Inter
Prior to clinching a move for Vincent Janssen last summer, Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a big money for for Mauro Icardi.
Spurs paid less than half to sign Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar, but they have yet to get value for money from the Dutchman.
Icardi meanwhile has gone on to justify the £38 million tag he was connected with, stepping his game up and demonstrating why Spurs were interested.
Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi celebrates
This season he has scored 20 goals in 27 Serie A appearances, 22 goals in all competitions.
Icardi has also provided eight assists, and is in form, netting five goals in his last four games.
The 25-year-old is capable of leading the line on his own, showing he is able to handle the pressure at the demanding Nerazzuri.
You can never quite tell how a player will or won't adapt to the Premier League, but Icardi would surely have fared better at Spurs than the striker they did manage to sign.
As for re-approaching him this summer, Icardi will be tough to sign, with Inter having been taken over by Chinese investors, and in no need to cash in.
The Argentine striker could though be tempted by the chance to work with compatriot Mauricio Pochettino, and Tottenham's likely ability to offer Champions League football, unlike Inter.
With the Serie A side interested in Tottenham winger Erik Lamela, there might just be an opportunity for Spurs to attempt to negotiate.
