Las Palmas now want £25m for Roque Mesa, with Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham believed to be keen.
Roque Mesa
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Las Palmas have revised their asking price for in-demand midfielder Roque Mesa, and will now demand his €30m (£25.75m) release clause.
Mesa, 27, is something of a late bloomer having been with Levante B, Huracan, Tenerife B and Las Palmas B, and only made his top flight debut in 2015 having been out on loan with Atletico Baleares.
The midfielder, who stands at just 5ft 7in tall, has gone from an unknown man in Spain to one of the top midfielders in La Liga at a rapid pace, earning plaudits for his displays last season.
Some compared Mesa to N’Golo Kante due to his all-action displays in front of the Las Palmas defence, and he has continued to impress under Quique Setien this season.
Recently, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Premier League sides Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were all keen on signing Mesa, along with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
It was claimed at the time that Las Palmas were willing to listen to offers starting at just €10million (£8.5million) – but their stance has allegedly changed amid great interest in Mesa’s signature.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman greets Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp
AS now report that Las Palmas will now demand Mesa’s full €30million (£25.75m) release clause, meaning the price it would take to land the midfielder has seemingly trebled in just two weeks.
Paying so much money for a midfielder approaching 28 who has just two years of top flight experience under his belt seems like something Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wouldn’t even begin to entertain, though Everton and Liverpool could be more likely.
Questions surround the futures of Everton midfielders James McCarthy and Muhamed Besic, meaning Ronald Koeman may pursue another midfielder despite landing Morgan Schneiderlin in January, whilst Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needs more depth in midfield, and Mesa could fit the bill – though the asking price should put many teams off.
