Kilmarnock are weighing up a move for Lincoln City defender Luke Waterfall, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Waterfall has impressed for Lincoln this season and played a major role in helping Lincoln claim famous FA Cup wins over Burnley, Brighton, Ipswich and Oldham to reach the quarter-finals of this season's competition.

The Red Imps captain has made 42 appearances in all competitions for the club and chipped in with seven goals from defence.

Scouts from clubs in England and Scotland have been checking on Lincoln's players as a result of their impressive run in the FA Cup and they could face a fight to keep hold of their best players from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Kilmarnock are understood to have sent scouts to cast an eye over Waterfall during Saturday's National League clash with title challengers Forest Green.

Waterfall played the full 90 minutes as Lincoln came from behind to win 3-1 to go top of the table and are well-placed to win promotion to League Two as they have three games in hand on second-placed Rovers.

Former Barnsley and Scunthorpe defender Waterfall, who joined Lincoln from Wrexham in 2015, is out of contract at the end of the season and he could leave Sincil Bank on a free transfer in the summer.
