Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
According to The Mirror, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has put together a huge list of potential summer transfer targets as he prepares to sign a new two-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners lost 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon to heap the pressure on manager Wenger, having lost four of the last five Premier League games, as well as being knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich – with an aggregate score of 10-2.
Many expected Wenger to leave the club this summer after more than 20 years in charge of the Gunners – but The Mirror claim that he is not only set to sign a new two-year contract, but he is putting together a major list of transfer targets for the summer.
Prominent names on the continent such as Kylian Mbappe, Marco Reus, Alexandre Lacazette and Jose Gaya are believed to be names on the list, but three names closer to home are also featured.
It's claimed that a goalkeeper is wanted, with David Ospina wanting first-team football and Petr Cech ageing, and Sunderland's Jordan Pickford is on the list along with Jack Butland and Joe Hart, with Wenger seemingly targeting an English shot-stopper.
Pickford, 23, has come up through the ranks with Sunderland, and has starred for the Black Cats, emerging as one of their few bright spots in a poor season – and should David Moyes' men suffer relegation, the England Under-21 international will be targeted by a host of top clubs, including Arsenal.
Elsewhere, another left back may be pursued, with Celtic's Kieran Tierney attracting interest from the Gunners. The 19-year-old has already made more than 60 first-team appearances for the Bhoys, and is closing in on his second league title win.
Celtic's Moussa Dembele shoots at goal
Tierney already has Champions League experience too, whilst he also has two Scotland caps, with many tipping him for stardom – and Arsenal may see him as Nacho Monreal's long-term replacement.
Tierney isn't the only Celtic player being targeted by Arsenal though, as with Wenger wanting a new striker, Moussa Dembele is also on his radar.
The French attacker joined Celtic from Fulham last summer, and has taken Scottish football by storm with 32 goals in 46 games, unsurprisingly triggering interest in his signature from huge clubs around Europe.
A double deal for Tierney and Dembele could cost upwards of £40million, with Celtic no doubt reluctant to lose both of them this summer – but with Wenger entering the final chapter of his time at Arsenal, he may look to splash the cash at the end of the season.
