The former Tottenham Hotspur winger has struggled since his move to Germany.
Tottenham's Ismail Azzaoui and Wolverhampton's Connor Hunte in action
Ismail Azzaoui was hotly tipped as a future star of the Spurs team after enjoying an excellent 2014-15 with the club and the Belgian under-17 side.
But the 18-year-old joined Wolfsburg in 2015 and has since gone on to feature twice for their first-team. Still considered a top talent, many a Spurs fan is still annoyed at the way Wolfsburg managed to pry him away from North London.
However, things have not gone to plan for the teenager in Germany.
Wolfsburg have recently appointed former Arsenal youth-team boss Andries Jonker as their new first-team manager. Recently, when asked about the future first-team chances of Azzaoui at the Volkswagen Arena he did not know who the former Tottenham player was. As quoted by SoccerNews he stated:
"I've never heard of him. I don’t know that boy. This is the first I hear of it.
“In practice, he was certainly not this week. I will have to inform myself."
Ismail Azzaoui scores the second goal for Tottenham
Quite the blow for the teenager. He is currently out of action with a serious knee injury, so it is no surprise. But considering Jonker’s previous history in North London it is surprising he does not recognise the name.
Things have certainly not turned out rosy at Wolfsburg for a player Spurs fans were livid the club did not keep hold of.
Hopefully he can come good in time.
