Magpies forward Ayoze Perez spoke to reporters about how difficult the final couple of months of his side's season will be, and highlighted how the international break has come at just the right time, with the Newcastle players in need of a rest, as quoted by the Chronicle.

Rafa Benitez' side are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, with a seven point lead over third placed Huddersfield Town, despite their poor run of results which has seen them take just two points from their last three outings.

With just eight games remaining in their campaign, they will have to ensure that they return to their best following the two-week international break.

And the 23-year-old Spaniard believes that mid-season rest could prove to be vital to his side's hopes of gaining promotion, as quoted by the Chronicle:

"After these few months with no break and a lot of games, it’s going to be good for us to rest our legs and our minds as well. We need a small rest. It can be good. We have to be ready for April. It’s going to be really busy.”

One huge positive for the Tyneside outfit is that they only have three away games left in their camping, and none of those fixtures are against any of the teams currently inside the top five.

Following their two week lay-off they have home matches against Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion, and six points from those games will be paramount if they are to go on and win the title.
