The Aston Villa goalie has been in good form for the club recently.
Aston Villa’s Sam Johnstone
Aston Villa had to make plenty of moves in January to strengthen the club, with some big names like Birkir Bjarnason, Scott Hogan and Henri Lansbury all arriving.
But perhaps the most important signing of all was a new goalkeeper.
Pierluigi Gollini was not cutting it in English football whilst Mark Bunn is limited. So, Villa moved to bring in Sam Johnstone on loan from Manchester United.
After some initial teething problems, the 23-year-old has recently been in good form, as Villa also turnaround their results.
In fact, he was voted man-of-the-match by Aston Villa fans after the weekend win against Wigan Athletic.
It was a vote of confidence that humbled the Aston Villa stopper.
He sent out this tweet today thanking fans for their support:
Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Very please, and happy with the win ✅⚽️ https://t.co/9jh0yCVHrQ— sam johnstone (@samjohnstone50) March 20, 2017
There is little doubting the quality of Johnstone. Villa’s horrid form at the turn of the year has been turned around. They have won five of their last six, keeping clean sheets in all of their victories.
The England talent has been a pivotal figure in that turn of form at Villa Park and fans at the club will be hoping they can keep hold of the player beyond his loan deal in the summer.
