Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has suggested on social networking site Twitter that the club could hold onto Jordan Veretout.

Veretout joined French club Saint-Etienne on a season-long loan deal from Championship outfit Aston Villa in the summer of 2016.

The 24-year-old midfielder moved to the Villans from Nantes in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £8 million.

Veretout, whose contract at Villa runs until June 2020 according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, created 39 chances in 25 Premier League appearances last season.

So far this campaign, the midfielder has scored two goals and created 39 chances in 26 Ligue 1 matches for Saint-Etienne.

Villa chairman Xia has suggested on Twitter that the club could hold onto Veretout for the 2017-18 campaign.

Villa are 12th in the Championship table at the moment with 51 points from 38 matches, while Saint-Etienne currently find themselves seventh in the Ligue 1 table with 44 points from 30 games.
