West Ham United's recent struggles continued on Saturday afternoon as they lost 3-2 at home to Leicester City in a disastrous defensive display.

The Hammers had picked up just two points in four games heading into Saturday's clash with a resurgent Leicester side, and the Foxes took the lead when Riyad Mahrez's cross beat everybody and nestled in the corner of the net.

After seven minutes, Leicester had made it 2-0 as Robert Huth headed Marc Albrighton's cross past Darren Randolph, and whilst Manuel Lanzini whipped a superb free kick into the top corner, Jamie Vardy smashed home from close range after West Ham failed to deal with a cross.

Andre Ayew headed West Ham back into the game, and after Kasper Schmeichel kept the Hammers at bay with a number of fine saves, Leicester held on for all three points.

A number of West Ham players struggled in their latest defeat, but defender Jose Fonte received the most criticism from fans on Twitter after the final whistle.

The Portuguese centre back, who won the European Championships with his country last summer, joined West Ham from Southampton in January after seven years on the South Coast, where he had established himself as one of the Premier League's top centre backs.

Seen as a veteran presence that could solidify West Ham's defence, the 33-year-old has so far struggled to impress, with Slaven Bilic's men still yet to keep a clean sheet with him in the side.

After the final whistle against Leicester, fans took to Twitter to blast Fonte, claiming he is 'past it', 'useless', 'no better than James Collins' and 'the worst player to wear a West Ham kit'.

Others suggested that Southampton will be laughing all the way to the bank after West Ham's January deal, whilst one fan would have preferred to see Mamadou Sakho arrive from Liverpool, with the Frenchman helping Crystal Palace to three consecutive clean sheets.
