The England international is out of favour with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United but could Newcastle entice him to Tyneside?
You could perhaps understand why Luke Shaw would be a little disillusioned at Manchester United. Since enduring a torrid Sunday afternoon at Vicarage Road in September, Watford cruising to a 3-1 win with the Red Devils’ left-back publically slammed by Jose Mourinho, the 21-year-old has started just two Premier League games.
And the Daily Star claims that Shaw, who was controversially included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, is considering the prospect of leaving Old Trafford in a bid to kick-start his stalling career just two years after arriving in Manchester from Southampton.
Surprisingly however, the publication identifies three rather modest clubs as potential destinations for one of world football’s most exciting young full-backs – Stoke City, Crystal Palace and Championship leaders Newcastle United.
The reports have emerged just a matter of days after Napoli goal machine Dries Mertens was linked with a sensational switch to Tyneside so you could understand fans passing off the rumours as nothing more than a means of filling gossip column inches.
However, with former Champions League winner Rafael Benitez at the helm, Newcastle have already demonstrated that they can punch above their weight in the transfer market and Shaw is a perfect fit for owner Mike Ashley’s policy of signing young players with a huge re-sale value.
Furthermore, Shaw would surely prove a huge hit among Newcastle supporters hoping for a more attacking alternative to Paul Dummett at left-back next season.
We're linked with Mertens and Luke Shaw for next season. Not a chance one step at a time lads, lets try and get promoted first! #nufc— Gordie (@gordiejennings) March 19, 2017

@NUFC360 Would love Shaw at NUFC but can see him going to someone like Tottenham or Everton tbh,— Ali Khan (@ali_e3) March 19, 2017
