Tottenham Hotspur signed the Dutchman in the summer of 2016.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane
Spurs striker Harry Kane spoke exclusively to the Press Association, and offered his backing for under-fire teammate Vincent Janssen, highlighting how he can still play a big part in Tottenham’s season, irrelevant of how little game-time he receives.
The 22-year-old striker has really struggled since making the move to White Hart Lane from AZ Alkmaar, scoring just four times for the Lilywhites, with all of those coming from the penalty spot.
And most of his appearances of late have been two or three minute cameos, with many questioning whether Mauricio Pochettino has already lost faith in his summer signing.
But Kane was steadfast in his support for Janssen, when speaking to the Press Association, choosing to concentrate on what the Dutchman has to offer, rather than focusing on his weak points:
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen in action
“He’s just got to do what he did against Everton, even though it might have only been three or four minutes at the end. He held the ball up, won free-kicks and saw the game out for us and that’s what he’s got to do every time he gets an opportunity. He has to try to impress no matter how many minutes it is. I was the same, I tried to do as much as I could in that time. He’s important, we are a team, we are a squad, every man is important.”
The problem for Janssen is that whilst Kane is at the club, he will never be the first-choice striker at White Hart Lane, and will most likely have to accept the fact that he will always play second fiddle to the England international.
He still deserves more time, however, in which to prove himself, before it is fair to pass judgement on his ability to succeed in the Premier League.
