Everton could have last laugh if they sign Harry Maguire for fraction of John Stones fee

The Hull City defender is said to be interesting Everton and they could get him without making a dent in the fee they received for Stones.

When Manchester City came knocking for Everton defender John Stones, the Toffees could only hold out for so long, especially when you consider the ridiculous sums on offer.

As reported by the BBC, Stones ultimately swapped Goodison Park for the Etihad Stadium in a deal worth £47.5million – a fee which continues to be questioned to this day despite the player’s undeniable quality.

And yet Everton could have the last laugh despite losing one of the most promising defenders of his generation, with the Sun claiming Toffees target Harry Maguire could leave Hull City for as little as £7million this summer.

At 24, Maguire is only a year older than Stones, and this season the Tigers centre-back has proved emphatically that he is destined for the top.

He is exactly the kind of defender Everton need and their manager Ronald Koeman could turn him into a star for club and country.

England's John Stones

If they can get him for a fraction of the price City paid for Stones, Everton would be laughing all the way to the bank because the way things are looking Maguire could be the better player both now and in the years to come.

A better player for £40.5million less than Everton got for Stones – what is not to like about that?
