Video: Which Aston Villa players would fans like to see return?

Martin Laursen - Aston Villa celebrates his goal for 1-0 with James Milner

Aston Villa have sold a lot of players in recent years, from Christian Benteke to Fabian Delph. But which former star would the Villains take back?

It's been a miserable old season for Aston Villa supporters. After relegation to the Championship, Villa fans were hoping for an immediate reaction, hoping to see their side to bounce back straight up to the Premier League. However, after two managers and tens of millions spent on a squad's worth of new players, Villa are stuck in 15th place, nine points away from the relegation zone.

Having shipped out a number of players over the summer, and over the last few years, Villa fans will be looking back at previous seasons and wondering where they went wrong, and perhaps which players they should have made more of an effort to keep hold on. With this in mind, HITC Sport went to meet Aston Villa fans, to ask which players they would love to see return to Villa Park in the near future...

"Paul McGrath" was a popular name amongst Villa supporters, who would love to go back in time and bring their former legend into today's team. The defender made over 250 appearances for Aston Villa before departing for Derby County in 1996. "He's probably one of our best ever players" added one Villa fan.

"Gareth Barry, we're in the Championship and I think he'd do well for us" added one other Aston Villa fan, who would like to see the now Everton midfielder return to Villa Park. "Juan Pablo [Angel]" was another shout from a Villa supporter. The Colombian striker scored 44 goals in 175 games for Villa.

"Nowadays I'd probably say James Milner from Liverpool" suggested one Villa supporter. The England international made 73 appearances for Villa between 2008-2010. "He'd run through brick walls for you" the fan added.

Another popular name was Christian Benteke. The Crystal Palace striker, who left Aston Villa for Liverpool in 2015, scored 42 goals in 89 appearances for the Villans.
