Chris Sutton has suggested St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has an audition this evening to land the vacant Rangers job.

St Johnstone visit Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership, hoping to take advantage of a Rangers side in terrible form.

The Gers lost to Inverness at the weekend and are 33 points behind rivals Celtic.

Wright is listed by SkyBet as a 25/1 outsider to land the Rangers job, but Sutton believes a victory this evening could really put him on the radar of the club's board.

He told BT Sport Scottish Football Extra yesterday evening (28/2 7pm): "Is it an audition for Tommy Wright if they go and get a big win there? It could be couldn't it.

"I think he deserves a chance. He's done a good job for a number of years, hes a Rangers man and he deserves an opportunity to manage up."

St Johnstone are currently sitting in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership, only six points behind Rangers, a gap which could close to three if they win this evening.

The Perth based side finished in fourth place last season, showing this season's strong performance is no one off for Wright's side.

Neither side are in good form with Rangers winning one of their last five, and St Johnstone losing two of their last three, including a 5-2 loss to Celtic.
