Dutch side AZ Alkmaar suffered humiliation in the Europa League last night as they were hammered 7-1 by Lyon.

The sorry figure in goal was a familiar figure to fans in England, Newcastle United's Tim Krul.

The international stopper has spent the season out on loan, the first half at Ajax before switching to AZ in January.

He may now be wishing he had not bothered. In five games he is yet to keep a clean sheet and has conceded 17 goals.

Krul suffered a serious knee injury last season and missed Newcastle's relegation to the Championship, and this season he never really figured in Rafa Benitez's plans.

Newcastle have Karl Darlow as their number one with Rob Elliott also as an option.

It would be a surprise if Krul has a future at the club next season even if they return to the top flight, but if he was playing for a future move to a top club, he will want to burn the tapes of last night's game.

Here is a look at how Newcastle United fans reacted on Twitter to Krul's misfortune...
