Aston Villa are set to take on Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Monday evening.
Steve Bruce has told hinted as his press conference, which was broadcast on Aston Villa’s official Twitter channel, that Mile Jedinak could come into his side’s starting line-up against Newcastle United on Monday.
Jedinak has picked up a groin injury, and faces a race against time to be fit to play at St. James’ Park.
The Australian international has not featured for Villa since the middle of January.
And Bruce has suggested that if Jedinak does come through training unscathed, he will feature on Tyneside.
“We’ve missed his presence and leadership skills,” Bruce said. “Hopefully he might return on Monday. Certainly, we’ve missed him in the last three or four weeks. We hope that we can get him back on the pitch.”
Villa have been in dire form over recent weeks, and they are still yet to pick up a victory in 2017.
The claret and blues go into the game at St. James’ Park, having lost 3-1 to Barnsley in their most recent fixture.
Newcastle and Villa were both tipped to be promotion contenders at the start of the season, but the two side’s seasons have taken very different routes.
Villa, who are stuck in 16th place in the Championship table, are the heavy outsiders to beat Newcastle, with Rafael Benitez’s side currently leading the way in the second tier.
