When speaking to the media ahead of his side's trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce talked up Henri Lansbury's ability, suggesting that he has been quietly pleased with him, whilst offering an explanation for the reasoning behind substituting him in three of the four games he has played, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.

The 26-year-old made the move to Villa Park from Nottingham Forest last month, for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.75 million, but he has had to endure a torrid start to life at his new club.

He has played four times for Villa so far, with Bruce's men losing three of those games and drawing one.

The Villa boss spoke highly of Lansbury during his pre-match press conference, however, and underlined the midfielder's importance to his side's chances of success in the future, as quoted by the Shields Gazette:

"Henri has done very well. The results might not have proved it and gone his way, but I have been quietly pleased with him. I have taken him off in a couple of games because he is flirting with nine bookings and he is nine games away from a suspension. He, and take this the right way, gets himself a little bit excited now and again. We have tried to protect him. He is a very important player for us."

Lansbury and co will be desperate to take three points back with them to the Midlands from Tyneside on Saturday, but that will be no easy task, with Rafa Benitez' side bang in form at the moment.

And with 19 points already separating Villa and sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday, anything but a victory would not only end any kind of hopes that they may have had for promotion, but would amazingly see them dragged into the relegation battle.
