West Ham United fans expect some major signings this summer.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic spoke to young fans of the club at a family fun day at the London Stadium yesterday, and shared his admiration for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, when asked which player he would love to bring to West Ham, as quoted by the club's official website.

Bilic managed the 31-year-old during his stint as Croatia national team boss, and has always thought very highly of the midfield playmaker.

And the Hammers manager responded to a question from a young fan asking him who he would sign if he could bring one player to the club, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“Messi. But, there’s one player that I would maybe get before Messi, and that’s Modric. Of course it’s because he’s Croatian… and I get a discount.”

Despite there being an obvious sarcastic undertone to the Croatian's comments, he would undoubtedly bring the former Tottenham man to the club, if the opportunity ever arose to make something happen.

And with the pair sharing such a close relationship, it is not an entirely unrealistic proposition.

Modric is one of the most highly decorated players in the game, with two Champions League winners medals to his name.

His contract at the Bernabeu does not expire until the summer of 2020, so any kind of move away from a club of such stature would seem unlikely.
