Everton have been linked with a summer move for Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna recently (Le 10 Sport), but the transfer would make absolutely no sense for the Toffees.

Ronald Koeman is said to have the Frenchman on his wishlist for next season, as he looks to strengthen Everton’s squad further.

However, Everton would surely be making a mistake if they were to submit an offer for Sagna.

While the former Arsenal man is undoubtedly a quality right-back, he is simply not what Everton need.

The Toffees already have an ageing backline, and they should be looking to reduce the average age of their squad rather than increase it.

Everton already have Leighton Baines, Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka in their backline - and the trio are all reaching the twilight of their careers.

Adding another veteran to their group would not be advisable, and it would also be hard to see exactly where Sagna would fit in.

Everton already have Seamus Coleman available to them, and he is a superior right-back to Sagna - meaning there would be no way for the 34-year-old to break into Koeman’s line-up.

It makes the transfer links very hard to believe, and it would surely be one of the most bizarre moves of the summer if Everton do go through with it.
