The West Ham United star has already made a huge difference to his side's defensive solidarity.
West Ham United's Jose Fonte in action
Hammers new-boy Jose Fonte spoke to Sky Sports during an exclusive interview, and explained the reasoning behind him choosing the number 23 shirt when he moved to the club last month.
The Portugal international made the move to the London Stadium from Southampton during the January transfer window, for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million, and many saw the signing of Fonte as a coup for West Ham.
The 33-year-old has made three appearances for Slaven Bilic's side so far, and he certainly seems to have brought an added level of authority and calmness to their backline.
Fonte spoke to Sky Sports about his move to East London, and explained why he chose the number 23 shirt upon his arrival:
"First of all, number six was not available - my favourite number as it was obviously retired with the great Bobby Moore, so I couldn't get that one. So I went for 23 because that was available, because two times three is six, and many great sports personalities use 23, so I like that number."

With Slaven Bilic's side now comfortably sitting inside the top half of the Premier League table, things are finally starting to look up for the East London outfit, after a miserable first half to their campaign.
And with Fonte now part of the Hammers setup, they will feel even more confident of forcing their way inside the league's top seven, and emulating last season's qualification for the Europa League.
