The Aston Villa youngster deserves a return to the starting line-up.
Aston Villa’s struggles went from bad to worse as they lost 3-1 at home to Barnsley on Tuesday evening.
Steve Bruce’s side have now lost their last four Championship matches and they have not picked up three points since Boxing Day, and with each new team selection Villans fans bemoan the absence and presence of this player and that in equal measure.
However, there is one Villa man who deserves to start far more often than he does and that is Andre Green.
The 18-year-old came on for the last 17 minutes against Barnsley, having managed 13 minutes in the previous clash against Ipswich Town. But that is not enough to make any real impact, especially when your side is already 3-1 down, and Green deserves to start Villa’s upcoming match against Newcastle United.
He is one of the few Villa players to offer a direct attacking style and a confidence in his own ability; a winger who can create confusion in the opposition defence and give Bruce’s side that spark they are sorely lacking.
Too many of the club’s senior stars fluffed their lines this week but Green rarely looks out of sorts and he needs a run of matches to show he can be Villa’s ray of light at a time growing increasingly dark.
