West Ham United beat Southampton 3-1 this afternoon.
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to dismiss fears over Andy Carroll’s fitness after he was substituted against Southampton.
The Hammers travelled down to the South Coast to take on Southampton just days after a humiliating 4-0 home defeat to Manchester City, whilst the hosts had lost 2-1 away at Swansea City in midweek.

Claude Puel’s Saints appeared to be heading towards victory when new signing Manolo Gabbiadini marked his debut with the opening goal, but the Hammers hit back in style.
Striker Andy Carroll equalised for West Ham before Pedro Obiang’s deflected strike gave Slaven Bilic’s men the lead, and Mark Noble sealed the win with the third goal in a 3-1 win.

The Hammers sit ninth in the Premier League table and will hope to close the gap to eighth-placed West Brom when the two sides meet next week, hopefully with striker Carroll available.
The giant striker made it five goals in his last eight games with West Ham’s equaliser this afternoon, but he was curiously substituted after 56 minutes in favour of playmaker Manuel Lanzini.
Given that West Ham didn’t sign a striker in January, a lot rests on Carroll, and haing endured an injury-hit career so far, fans are concerned about his fitness after his substitution against Southampton.
However, co-chairman David Gold took to Twitter to calm fears over Carroll’s fitness, suggesting that he is fine, but was just taken off as a precaution as West Ham look to manage their injury-prone goalscorer.
