Wycombe Wanderers chairman Andrew Howard is a Leeds United fan.
Wycombe Wanderers chairman Andrew Howard has revealed to The Times a joke he made about Leeds United 11 years ago.
Howard, who has also disclosed that he is a Leeds fan, became the chairman of Wycombe in the summer of 2014.
“This is awful,” the 53-year-old told The Times. “The then chairman of Wycombe Wanderers, Ivor Beeks, lived in the village and we are at the village fête and everyone knows I’m a Leeds fan and Leeds are in the Championship and Wycombe are in League Two.
“I said to Ivor, if Leeds ever end up in the same league as Wycombe, I’ll buy a box. Leeds get relegated, Wycombe get promoted [in 2009], and 20 minutes later Ivor’s on the phone asking, ‘Which box do you want?’”
Wycombe are in League Two at the moment, while Leeds are currently in the Championship and could find themselves playing in the Premier League next season.
The Chairboys have a chance of staging an upset this afternoon when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in North London.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side will face Premier League club Tottenham away from home in the fourth round of the FA Cup in a few hours’ time.
Spurs will head into the match as favourites and should be able to win the tie with ease, but the visiting team will fancy creating some problems for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Meanwhile, Leeds will face National League outfit Sutton United away from home at the Borough Sports Ground in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon. The West Yorkshire outfit will head into the tie as favourites.
